LB House occupies a small, idyllic island in the northern Stockholm archipelago – a quiet outpost where the city recedes and daily life is recalibrated to weather, water and light. Conceived as a summer residence for a Stockholm-based couple, the house is designed less as an object in the landscape and more as a finely tuned backdrop for inhabiting it, offering a deliberate counterpoint to urban routine.
The architecture sits low and composed among pines, granite outcrops and heather, carefully positioned to open toward long views over the water while remaining sheltered from prevailing winds. Large panes of glass and precisely framed apertures choreograph sightlines to the horizon and sky, ensuring that the presence of the sea is constantly felt from within. Sliding doors, decks and outdoor rooms extend the interior onto the rocks, allowing the threshold between inside and outside to dissolve during the long Nordic summer.
Internally, the plan is informal and social, centered around shared spaces for cooking, gathering and unwinding after a swim, with more secluded rooms discreetly arranged for rest and retreat. A restrained material palette of natural, tactile finishes underscores the sense of ease and longevity, allowing shifting light and seasonal change to become the primary decoration. In this way, LB House functions as a calm, carefully edited base camp for a couple trading city streets for rock, forest and water.
