HE House

Residential
Private villa
Nacka, Sweden
Under construction

Perched on a steep hillside in idyllic Nacka, just east of central Stockholm, HE House is conceived as a vantage point and a refuge in equal measure. The villa commands expansive views over the landscape while at the same time carving out a sheltered, inward-facing backyard dedicated to calm and contemplation.

Organised across two levels, the house rests on an entrance floor that incorporates an open car park tucked beneath the main volume. Because the plot was previously inaccessible by car, a new road was created exclusively for the project, threaded carefully into the cliffside so that the approach becomes a considered part of the architectural experience.

The upper floor is divided into distinctly social and private zones. The social wing is fully transparent, forming a luminous enfilade that visually and spatially connects the quiet backyard — complete with a small pool in natural stone and an adjoining Japanese-inspired garden — to a generous viewing terrace on the opposite side. Here, the house opens itself to both the intimate garden and the broader panorama.

In contrast, the private wing is wrapped in walnut boiserie, lending warmth and tactility to a sequence of rooms linked by a hallway that overlooks the garden and culminates in a study with views into the greenery. Throughout, material choices are precise and quietly expressive: the exterior is clad in folded, natural anodised aluminium panels that give the house a subtle metallic sheen, catching light differently across the day and further emphasizing its poised, sculptural presence on the hillside.
